Presentation at ASEEES
I presented a paper titled “Entangled Colonial Voices: My Nightingale (1943) and the Imperial Japanese Imagination of Russian Music in Manchukuo” on a panel sponsored by the Music Study Group at the Association for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies Annual Convention. The paper explores the shifting status of Russian musicians and musical culture in Manchuria through the lens of the 1943 Imperial Japanese propaganda film My Nightingale.
